Followers of Gond
When magic disappeared 700 years ago, the Church of Gond the Gearmaker was well positioned to gain power. The clergy had long believed in working with their hands in favour over magic, and their practices formed the basic principles from which science grew.
When Gond established the connection between the planes in 2012 DR, his Church had grown to become a powerful research organisation, part religion and part corporation. Many in the Church welcomed Gond’s return, but a small faction viewed the return of magic as a threat to both their power and scientific progress. They denounced the returning gods as impostors, including Gond himself, and split from the Church, naming themselves the “Followers of Gond” in reference to their understanding of the “true” Gond as a god set apart from, and opposed to, magic.
Publicly, the Followers of Gond fund scientific research that eschews magical aid, as well as running a number of support groups for victims of magic and rehabilitating wizards. Behind the scenes, they’re also linked to several terror groups targeting magic users.
